Careers in Construction Month 2024

Careers in Construction Month

Carolinas AGC (CAGC) is proud to celebrate Careers in Construction Month this October! CAGC is dedicated to promoting the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available in the field and inspiring the next generation of construction professionals. Throughout the month, CAGC will participate in various activities to elevate the construction industry and showcase the pathways it offers. Our initiatives include hosting educational events, sharing success stories from industry professionals, providing valuable resources for job seekers, and engaging with local communities to raise awareness about construction careers.

By highlighting the importance of construction careers and supporting workforce development, CAGC is committed to building a strong and skilled future workforce. We invite students, job seekers, and community members to join us in celebrating Careers in Construction Month and explore all that the industry has to offer. Furthering our commitment, CAGC is actively involved with the "Be Pro Be Proud" program, engaging students from middle school through high school across both North Carolina  and South Carolina . This initiative serves as a critical platform for introducing young people to the potential career paths in construction, highlighting the industry's significance and its diverse opportunities.

Additionally, CAGC is reaching out to even younger minds through the development and distribution of construction-themed lesson plans for K-5th grade educators. This effort, combined with the Lane the Loader ™ program , which distributes construction-themed books to libraries, classrooms, and hospitals, is designed to spark interest in construction from an early age.

Careers in Construction Month (CICM) is a nationwide campaign held every October to increase public awareness of construction careers, inspire the next generation of craft professionals and showcase the positive impact a fulfilling career in construction can have on individuals and communities.

The program prepares students to transition into immediate job placement, higher level skilled trades programs, apprenticeships, internships, and degree programs while learning industry essentials*. The CBC was developed for minorities, women, veterans, disabled, justice-involved and disadvantaged youth but is available for anyone. Skills taught include: hands on training with tools and equipment, NCCER Credential, OSHA 10 Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, soft skills training and more. All participants are eligible for a $750 cash benefit.

*Each Community College offers a unique set of skills.

By the numbers: Since beginning in March 2023, over 235 students have enrolled in bootcamp programs across the state.

Success Story: One student tried to find a job in the construction industry before the program. Although he had the desire, he found he did not have enough experience and was turned away.  He learned about the program and reached back out to a local company and CAGC member. They allowed him to job shadow/work one day a week while in the program.  He did so well, they offered him a full-time role at the end of the bootcamp. He is now thriving in his new role and is beyond thankful for the construction bootcamp opportunity.

Success Story: “Going through the CAGC Business Academy has been amazing! I’ve met so many new people in the minority business community and have worked with a few of them since our cohort. Because of this class, my business reaches a broader audience and has more visibility. We have also gained more knowledge and internal support from an operating standpoint because of the topic discussions in class. The program was well thought out with the business owner in my mind.” Melody Compton, Construction Business Academy Graduate, Purified Pros
