You gotta have a plan.
To that end, our Carolinas AGC Board of Directors and staff came together to craft a new strategic plan in late 2022. During our time together, we discussed the successes/challenges of the past as well as current industry and member needs. CAGC, now 103 years old, has a solid history of confronting, and addressing, industry issues that affect our businesses, families, professionals and the essential work done by the construction community in North and South Carolina.
While some things have and always will need strategic commitment, key emerging issues deserve thoughtful planning and execution as we move forward over the next 5 years. Challenges will continue with major issues such as our workforce shortage, supply chain delays, and soaring costs of labor and materials. The focuses below are the outcome of many days of robust discussion, listening with open minds and working toward our future together.
“This is a visionary plan that will serve as a guidepost for the next 5 years for Carolinas AGC to take it to the next level as The Construction Industry Association of the Carolinas,” said Mark Johnnie, CAGC BOD Chair, after the Board approved the new plan early in 2023.
We like to keep things simple.
Our Vision Statement is: “Carolinas AGC will be recognized as the trusted voice for the construction industry in the Carolinas.” Our Mission: “Building Our Members’ Success.”
Our top focus is Membership Engagement and Growth, with a goal of having 900 member companies in our CAGC Family in the next several years. We kicked off this year well with 400+ attendees at our 2023 Winter Convention in Aruba. Our networking events in both Carolinas are drawing big crowds at pre-COVID levels. Look for hundreds of attendees this year at our Young Leader events, HR/Safety Conference, Summer Summit & Expo in Asheville, two clay shoots and live/online education and training. Our 2024 Winter Convention will be in St. Thomas.
As an association, we are committed to growing the Carolinas AGC network that strengthens current businesses and encourages creation of new businesses that build our communities, and those service and supplier businesses that support the industry. Business networks provide opportunities for support, learning, and growth. They also provide a place for partnerships to begin and thrive. Our Young Leader program is among the strongest among our 89 AGC chapters across the nation.
The bigger, more inclusive that network, the stronger it is for all at a time when we need thousands more people to make excellent, well-paying careers in the construction industry. CAGC looks forward to building our members success by being intentional about engaging diverse populations with a goal of strengthening our construction community and all our businesses. Our Contractor Business Academy and our Construction Boot Camps have big plans to help tackle the workforce shortage, with big help from our community colleges.
Our commitment to training the current workforce, from craft training to supervisory and C-suite, remains a strategic priority. Our professionals, and teams in the field and office are our most valued resource and nothing is more important than their professional growth, safety, mental health and wellness. Additionally, Carolinas AGC resolves to face the workforce shortage issue by reaching out to spread the good news about career opportunities within our industry. Our Contractors in the Classroom program brings early awareness to our Jr. High and High Schools students. Longstanding relationships with Universities, Community Colleges and Technical Schools through student chapters teach our emerging professionals how to thrive after graduation as they embark on their career. The CAGC Young Leaders that work with member companies are already a driving force in moving Carolinas AGC forward and we are enthusiastic about their valued leadership.
As our businesses grow, Carolinas AGC will continue with our five lobbyists in offering unmatched efforts to monitor and affect legislative action, the general business climate, and possible regulatory impacts. With a strong advocacy team, and member network, we stand ready to fight for a level playing field and good business decision-making. Longstanding relationships with government entities, Designer, Engineers and owner entities, Carolinas AGC is uniquely positioned through our committee partnerships to advocate for our businesses.
Carolinas AGC is your association. Your leadership and CAGC staff are passionate about our strategic direction. We want you involved, we want to see you, and we want to hear from you. Your involvement in your association is what keeps us strong.
