About 30 people attended our quarterly Triad CAGC luncheon on Aug. 29th that featured Brian Norris of the Business High Point Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Norris had an outstanding presentation at the Greensboro-High Point Marriott Airport about the Eastern Triad Workforce Development Initiative he is overseeing that includes such accomplishments as:

  • NC legislative approval of a $3.2 million, first-year grant for the current fiscal year that is being used toward the public-private partnership pilot program that includes 24 workforce development stakeholders in Alamance, Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham counties that are collaborating on strategies to create a pipeline of skilled workers for construction and other industries.

  • The effort comes at a time when, he said, an estimated one-third of the workforce will have to learn new skills in the next 12 years for construction and other industries. The legislative grant currently is leveraging $7.6 million for related workforce training efforts. He said that 40 apprenticeships involving 26 companies have been awarded involving $5 million in total scholarships.
“We need to ramp up Career Technical Education and skill efforts to meet workforce needs,” Mr. Norris said. “This program is replicable.”

During the lunch meeting yesterday, CAGC staff also discussed our Build Your Career workforce development initiative strategies. For more info, please contact Tammy Ford (tford@carolinasagc.org), CAGC Build Your Career Director.

Yesterday’s luncheon is part of more than 80 meetings CAGC has in all major cities of North and South Carolina, including quarterly luncheons and other events. Don't miss the next event near you! View our calendar for a full list of events.
