About 2,000 people attended the 5-day AGC of America Convention last week in San Diego, including nearly 40 CAGC members. Representation from our CAGC Board of Directors included BOD Chair Dean Wilson; Chair Elect Ty Edmondson; CAGC BOD Treasurer Lynn Hansen; CAGC At-Large Member Jim Roberts; and Dave Simpson, CAGC President & CEO. CAGC Foundation Treasurer Evan Sowell was also among CAGC members in attendance. During the Convention, Edmondson, who also served as Utility Infrastructure Chair on the AGC Board of Directors for the past two years and was recently appointed to the AGC Board of Governors for the coming year, received the AGC BOD President’s Award for Exemplary Service. Also noteworthy, Simpson last week was named to a two-year term on the AGC BOD as Chair Elect for AGC’s Executive Leadership Council.
Also in attendance were NC State University students Colin Ramalho & Aaron Ward, courtesy of NC State's Engineer Your Experience (EYE) Program. “Our motivations for attending the convention were twofold: to immerse ourselves in the vast network of construction professionals and to gather insights that could rejuvenate the NC State AGC student chapter, which has navigated significant challenges during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Our interactions have equipped us with knowledge and best practices from thriving AGC student chapters. As we approach graduation, Aaron and I are eager to channel the insights gained from the convention into revitalizing our student chapter. Our goal is to foster a more active, engaged, and resourceful chapter that can serve as a platform for professional growth for its student members,” the construction engineering students said in an email.
