Aaron Goldstein, PG, UES Department Manager
UES’ innovative SIM approach to understanding the depth and location of underground utilities, buried debris, and other buried assets. In this presentation, Aaron will present a brief history of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) in the AEC industry, followed by new geophysical and technological innovations that help elevate and leverage underground utility data to new heights. In addition, Aaron will discuss how this data can be integrated into Building Information Modeling (BIM) documentation to maximize conflict resolution between SIM and BIM models.

Speaker Biographies:
Aaron GoldsteinAaron Goldstein
Aaron Goldstein, PG is a geophysicist and technology integration expert with specialties at evaluating subsurface conditions through geophysical and non-destructive techniques. His expertise includes leading geophysical campaigns to characterize the subsurface and innovating new approaches to resolving unknown below-grade conditions. He assists and advises clients to avoid potential geological hazards such as buried debris and unknown buried assets. 

As a regional department manager of UES' Virtual Design Consulting (VDC) department, Aaron educates professionals in the AEC industry while managing projects across the country. He frequently assists with 3D Subsurface Information Model (SIM) campaigns, which helps preconstruction and design teams work around existing subsurface utilities and conditions. In addition, Aaron experiments with augmented reality and virtual reality techniques to help visualize and bring the office to the field and vice versa.

Teddy MeyersTeddy Myers 
Teddy Myers is an account executive for the Mid-Atlantic region at OpenSpace. His focus is helping general contractors and architects gain efficiencies with reality capture technology. With a background in construction, having worked for Clarke Construction Group and SavCon prior to joining OpenSpace, Teddy has a keen understanding of the challenges the industry faces and how technology can help address pain points and enhance productivity.

Ginger NixonGinger Nixon
Ginger Nixon leads the field marketing efforts for OpenSpace’s North American General Contractor team. She works closely with customers and customer-facing teams to understand the impact technology has on their day-to-day operations. Passionate about bridging the gap between technology and practical application, Ginger drives meaningful engagements that empower users to maximize the benefits of innovative solutions.

Alan ToddAlan Todd
Alan Todd is a Registered Architect with 26 years of industry experience and serves Barton Malow as a Director of Business Transformation. He focuses on developing new technologies, project planning & delivery techniques, and business models that address the current challenging state of the design and construction industry. Alan believes that consistent, standardized design and project delivery approaches are essential for achieving efficient and predictable project outcomes, especially in market segments with highly repetitive building elements.

To achieve this vision, Alan is leveraging strategic design, trade, and manufacturing partnerships to access upstream sectors of the supply chain and create attractive downstream labor conditions. Additionally, he uses design and engineering automation techniques to accelerate project planning
