Sprinkler Fitting Level 1

  • Introduction to the Trade
    Explains the importance of having goals and maintaining good working relationships on the job.
  • Hangers, Supports, Restraints and Guides
    Describes types of pipe hangers, supports, restraints, and guides found a the job site and shows trainees how to determine their field placement.
  • Threaded Steel Pipe
    Identifies the various materials used in threading piping systems, and explains the types and uses of various screwed fittings.
  • Flanged, Grooved and Plain End Fittings
    Identifies and describes flanged, grooved and plain end fittings, and explains how to groove pipe and install fittings.
  • Plastic Pipe
    Provides the size classifications, fitting and joining methods and handling and storage requirements of CPVC.
  • Copper Tube Systems
    Identifies the types of copper tube and fittings approved for use in fire sprinkler systems.
  • Underground Pipe
    Discusses properties and classifications of soils, sloping requirements, excavation support systems, and backfilling requirements.

Sprinkler Fitting Level 2

  • Introduction to Sprinklers
    Introduces various types of sprinklers used in the fire protection industry.
  • Standard Sprinklers
    Identifies and explains standard sprinklers and differences in water distribution patterns between sprinkler spray upright and sprinkler spray pendent sprinklers.
  • Special Sprinklers and Nozzles
    Introduces special sprinklers and nozzles and their limitations. Electrical safety with nozzles is also discussed.
  • General Purpose Valves
    Covers the various types of valves used in the sprinkler industry and their applications. Offers practice in maintaining and installing valves.
  • Wet Fire Sprinkler Systems
    Explains the purpose, function and operation of components used in wet fire sprinkler systems.
  • Dry-Pipe Systems
    Explains the purpose, function and operation of components used in dry-pipe systems including appropriate air pressure precautions and calculation methods for determining system volume.

Sprinkler Fitting Level 3

  • General Trade Math
    Explains math used to perform sprinkler system design, layout, and installation.
  • Construction and Plans
    Describes the types of construction and plans used for the installation of sprinkler systems.
  • Water Supplies
    Identifies the chemical and physical properties of water and covers the different water supplies available for automatic sprinkler systems.
  • Standpipes
    Identifies and explains wet and dry standpipes, describes standpipe sizing, classification and building codes, and reviews standards that must be followed for installation.
  • Preaction/Deluge Systems
    Covers different types of preaction/deluge systems. Installation and troubleshooting techniques are also discussed.

Sprinkler Fitting Level 4

  • Fire Pumps
    Identifies and explains various fire pump systems, pumps and drivers, controllers and sensing line. Testing, maintenance and troubleshooting are discussed.
  • Special Extinguishing Systems
    Identifies and explains exposure systems, water spray systems, foam systems, carbon dioxide systems, Halon systems, auxiliary and local alarm systems.
  • System Design
    Identifies and explains basic hydraulic concepts and selection of hydraulic design methods. Performing fire sprinkler system hydraulic calculations is also covered in this module.
  • Inspection and Maintenance
    Identifies and explains inspection and maintenance of wet pipe systems, dry pipe systems, preaction/deluge systems, and special systems.
  • Foremanship
    Introduces the trainee to foremanship and covers responsibilities, leadership and safety as well as project documentation and report related to materials tracking and labor tracking.
